LET HIM FILL YOUR EMPTY SPACES
by Molly Spence
Christ can meet any of our needs and He can provide solace through any valley that you may face, including the experience of dealing with an absentee parent. I remain amazed at all that the Lord has done for my mother and I to fill the void of my father's chosen absence. He has provided light and shelter in a most trying situation; single parenthood is not an easy road to endure. No one can ever prepare one for the heartbreak that comes with this trial, but...
Christ can bless the most broken of circumstances beyond our comprehension.
Christ can bless the most broken of circumstances beyond our comprehension.
I chose to tell a story I have long kept inside my heart because I know I am only one of many women who carry this exact void. To be honest, my relationship with the Lord has become stronger through my experience because He has exceeded anything I could ever have wanted from my father.
My parents divorced when I was eight years old, and my father has consistently played a revolving door role in my life. As I've grown older, the sting has hurt a little less; while my love for my Savior grows a little more with each passing moment. My father left my childhood with a lot of empty spaces. He never protected me. He possesses a conditional love for me. He has never willingly provided a single thing for my Mom & I. "I love you" are words that always fall flat between the two of us.
The pain never will fully subside outside of eternity. I struggle to trust men and friends who love me simply because I remember the feeling of being abandoned.
However, I am thankful that I have a Savior who continues to work with me and Who faithfully strives to fill those empty spaces.
Anyone who has experienced single parenthood or who has been the child of an absentee parent need not to worry. I know it may be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but to encourage you, no matter how bleak the situation is, all will be okay. Pray and seek His guidance. Hard times will continue to come but as you go through life with all of that hurt and bewilderment, take heart and allow the Lord to fill your empty spaces.
I pray that my words may provide comfort to a broken spirit.
He Will Provide:
Christ can supply all of our needs. Struggles will come and people in our lives will falter, but Christ's devotion to us remains solid and unwavering. The Bible encourages our needful hearts.
"But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in Christ Jesus". Philippians 4:19
He Will Protect:
Christ will protect fiercely. He has protected me in times of strife both before and since my salvation and to Him I am so thankful that He remains a faithful shield. He is a shield for our vulnerable souls.
"Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him." Proverbs 30:5
He Loves Unconditionally:
Christ's love has no bounds. He loves us through every part of our lives. He has shown me a love I never knew before I knew Him; it still amazes my heart to this day.
"The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." Jeremiah 31:3
Let Him fill your empty spaces.
